Notice on Kentucky Building and Residential Codes

HBC adopted the 2018 Kentucky Building Code (“KBC”) and the 2018 Kentucky Residential Code (“KRC”).  The 2018 KBC and the 2018 KRC went into effect on Aug. 22, 2018.  The codes are based on the 2015 International Building Code and the 2015 International Residential Code, both with Kentucky amendments.  The mandatory effective date for the 2018 KBC and the 2018 KRC will be Jan. 1, 2019.

Elevators

The Elevator Inspection Section approves plans and specifications and issues permits for the installation of all new, altered or relocated elevators, freight elevators, escalators, moving walks, dumbwaiters, material lifts, stairway chairlifts, wheelchair lifts, vertical reciprocating conveyors, and other related devices to be installed in public or residential applications. 

The Elevator Inspection Section also inspects all new and existing elevators, freight elevators, escalators, moving walks and other lifts on a yearly basis and issues certificates of operation. This section also performs investigations of accidents or incidents involving elevators, escalators, moving walks and all related equipment.
